Learning in Public

Onto a new journey of learning and discovery

Lately, I’ve been super impressed by the concept of learning in public. I’ve said it before and continue to believe that writing is the best way to organize knowledge and thoughts in one’s own mind — writing forces one to do that.

My day job involves working with technology, specifically data engineering, cloud computing, DevOps, infrastructure, testing, and more. My interests, hobbies, and passions include various forms of Indian classical music, Urdu poetry, history, and philosophy, among other things.

In my pursuit to learn in public, I’ll continue to talk about the things I just mentioned, but I’ll also talk about new things I pick up now and then. I’ll try to write about my observations rather than echo precisely what I hear from or read elsewhere.

My previous articles on Medium have all had some structure, and I’ve had to spend several hours, sometimes even days, writing each one of them. Although this new form of writing will be much more spontaneous, I’ll still try to keep enforcing some structure; otherwise, what’s the point of organizing thoughts?

I needed some sort of anchor to start this new thing around learning in public on my Medium blog. It’s the first Monday of the new financial year here in Australia. I suppose it’s arbitrary, but more than enough to get me started.

I’ll post on my Medium blog instead of a new Medium publication. I have not decided on a cadence yet, but you’ll hear from me at least a few times a week. See you!
